This segment will include our behind the scenes of producing and developing the concept of this music video as well as unseen footage which didn’t make the cut!

This offers insight as to the purpose of the Music Video and why the central concepts were created.

Locations & Equipment

Locations:

Woodlands (Alnwick)

The scenic intervals were filmed in a range of locations with different visually appealing qualities, this was to ensure that the music video met the original concept of an indie music video whilst still conveying mainstream music video conventions throughout.

Bothal woods

Bothal offers both a visually appealing background but it also is a home to many different animals which I encountered whilst shooting the mv, this gave a romanticism element to the music video

Neighbourhood Weekender

The moments captured on the lower quality digital camera were typically at concerts and festivals , this was to allow the audience to feel a sense of authenticity and the universal experience of witnessing live music in which you have longed for, for a while with those you love.

I included technical codes such as; Close up shots of our friends and their relationships, this was to convey the realities of teenage relationships and the exciting naivety of it all.

The Lakes & Cottage Cumbria

The video clips of The Lake District and my cottage has been included to represent the adventurous archetype of developing as a teenager and the places you visit with friends. Showcasing the coming of age genre which the music video is centred around. This is evident through the differentiation of quality of the clips used setting up new narratives and the unpredictability of life’s next chapter.

Newcastle Upon Tyne

The later scenes reflecting the ‘resolution’ and hardships which has been overcame for the central characters relationship

Equipment:

Sony a6100

A majority of the footage you have seen was filmed on my Sony A6100 camera , this helped to convey mainstream elements of archetypal mainstream music videos , but it also allowed the clips to look produced to a high quality. This was necessary for the production as I believed al the moments needed to be captured for how they truly were.

Digital Kodak Camera

Whilst shooting videos at concerts and on-the-go with little intentions of filming for the music video , it allowed me to capture candid moments allowing the audience to feel a part of the production process and living vicariously through the elements of the coming of age genre and the illusion of nostalgia.

The Importance of location

These are photos I captured whilst finding the perfect locations for the music video. It was important to me that I found landscapes which encapsulated a similar experience to hearing the lyricism of the chosen song , ‘Anything’. I wanted to ensure that I incorporated all elements of the complexities and experiences we face during the nuances of adolescence.

The different locations explored aligns to the movement of time and the progressive changes within an individual from childhood to adulthood. Resonating with McCanns lyricism throughout, ‘Anything’, and the most popular album The Ride.
